Chris Lloyd ran his first outdoor race this weekend [26/4/2008] at Drake Relays and ran a solid 46.80 despite the cold weather and very strong winds. I have attached the results below and a quote from the paper about the conditions.
"as competitors struggled to perform to their peak with temperatures in the low 40s and swirling winds throughout the day.
The temperature dropped almost 20 degrees by noon, and wind gusts of up to 28 mph knocked down all the plants on the medal stand.
Folks that view the Drake Relays as the unofficial event of spring bundled up in winter coats, gloves and hats and packed concession stands selling coffee and hot chocolate. The fans stuck around though, even giving the sun a sarcastic round of applause when the it made a brief appearance midway through the afternoon."

Just a short Note after a successful weekend at the Carifta Games:
We were consistently very good at Carifta in the throws in the past years, but definately there are talented athletes in Dominica that would be able to participate as potential medalists in the track events and jumps events as well. But for this to happen we need a 400m synthetic track in Dominica.
Athletes succeeding at the Carifta Games are often potential future Olympic Games qualifiers and represent their country at various World Games. They also stand a good chance to receive a full athletic scholarship at a top US University.
Let's get the kids off the streets, let's invest and offer them programs to nurture their God given talent - giving them the opportunity to make it through sports. I believe that a 400m track in Dominica is worth the investment - St.Kitts proved it this Easter weekend - maybe we should aim to host the Carifta Games e.g. in 2011, as was done by Turks and Caicos in 07 and St.Kitts - they did not have a track previously either - let's go for it!

Andre Bazil - U-20 Overall Athlete
The Final Results and Overall Winners of the DAAA National Junior Championship held on March 2, 2008 are now up.
It was a wet day in Portsmouth last Sunday and the conditions throughout the day hardly allowed top performances - but the good results under these circunstances reflect the talent and potential of our Junior Athletes. Rain on and off in the morning and a sunnier afternoon still made it possible to complete most of the events. Disappointing was the number of participating athletes - only 70% of the registered athletes competed and this absence needs to be evaluated.
A compliment to all the athletes who participated and gave their best despite the unfortunate conditions and a big thank you to all the Officials who held out in this rainy weather and made the event a success .
